Cyril Brivet-Naudot received his watchmaking diploma (Métiers d'Art Horlogerie) from the famous Lycée Edgar Faure in Morteau. This educational institution became known for two reasons: firstly, its graduates are exceptional masters of watchmaking tested by time; secondly, it is very close to Switzerland. It is only a 20-minute drive from Le Locle, the birthplace of such brands as Tissot, Ulysse Nardin, and Zenith.
After studying at the Lycée Edgar Faure, Brive-Nudot received a Bachelor of Science degree from one of Switzerland’s best technical universities, École Polytechnique Federal of Lausanne, and began working on his first watch. The mechanically exotic Eccentricity watch, which took the young French master three years to develop, was released in the summer of 2018.
At the young age of thirty, the watchmaker has already been accepted to the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants, joining many prestigious names before him.
The Eccentricity features a free eccentric escapement which is an updated version of the escapement created by the great Swiss chronometer-maker Louis Richard in the 19th century. The Louis Richard escapement is a hybrid, combining an anchor escapement and chronometer escapement, which is described and illustrated in Louis Moinet's book "Nouveau Traité Général d'Horlogerie". Also, the Eccentricity watch has no crown, instead, it features keyholes for winding and setting using a winding key.
The Eccentricity is completely handcrafted, without the use of CNC machines. Moreover, the master made the details himself, except for the mainspring, the balance spring, and the jewels.
The Eccentricity is a great example of how to make a first impression in watchmaking. Brivet-Naudot did not turn to anyone for help while working on his caliber and did not use any marketing tricks. Instead, he studied a lot, worked hard, and eventually achieved his goal.
At the young age of thirty, the watchmaker has already been accepted to the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants, joining many prestigious names before him.
Brivet-Naudot's advice to other watchmakers who want to become independent sounds as follows: “Go ahead and take a risk! This is probably the most difficult step - to believe in your dream and make it come true. You will have to overcome your doubts and loneliness and ignore the opinions of others. The main thing is to be persistent and go forward without looking back at others. Believe me, the journey to your dream is worth it!”
