Swiss watchmaker of Italian origin, Michel Parmigiani became famous as a virtuoso restorer of antique pocket and interior watches.
Having spent decades restoring rare pieces of art, then restoring masterpieces belonging to the Sandoz Family Foundation, established by the heirs of the founder of the Swiss pharmaceutical empire, he created his own watch brand in 1996 with the support of the foundation.
Restoration still remains one of Parmigiani’s main activities. Thus, one of his last works was the restoration of works by Faberge.
Four years later, the Sandoz Family Foundation decided to invest in the development of watchmaking and established a full cycle manufacture. For this purpose, the Foundation purchased suppliers specializing in the production of watch cases, mechanism parts, and dials.
Now the production complex of Parmigiani Fleurier includes such companies as: Atokalpa, specializing in escapement wheels, forks, balances, spirals; Les Artisans Boîtiers - watch cases; Elwin -balance wheels; Quadrance et Habillage - dials; Vaucher Manufacture develops movements, parts and assembles watches and calibers. Thanks to these production facilities, Parmigiani Fleurier produces everything in-house, and also supplies components for the most prestigious watch brands.
Michel Parmigiani gained complete independence and creative freedom. With that, he released his first and most important collections, Kalpa and Tonda, based on the naturally harmonious aesthetic of the Golden Ratio. These watches were recognized as a symbol of superb design and technical excellence. The Toric collection includes various complicated models, such as innovative minute repeaters with loud chimes. Sports models are presented in the Tonda and Bugatti collections.
The top piece unique models belong to the Bugatti collection: for example, the Type 390 watch, designed in collaboration with Bugatti engineers.
Parmigiani Fleurier produces 6,000 watches a year. Recently, the production volume has increased due to relatively democratic models - men's Tonda 1950 in a steel case and women's Tonda Métropolitaine.
